i may be coming up with a section dedicated to pay per click marketing in the near future.

This list was just designed to show you the flaws within the method that was posted on john chow.

I would not be able to summarize how to do this correctly in one blog post =(

Yeah, I was really kind of pissed that this kind of information was circulated. I wrote this so fast and wanted to get in a rebuttal before people started screwing up their adwords account with crazy advice like this.

Thank crap someone who knows AdWords stepped in and saved me writing a post myself.

No offence to Jonathan, but his first tip in particular was absolute BS.

this is very true and often very common. Sometimes we find that we prequalify our visitor so much that we sacrafice CTR for a higher CPC with a greater conversion ratio. Nice add ;)

Thanks for these. I came here from JohnChow and from using Adwords in the past I realised a few of the point were hugely wrong. Especially Tip 1!

One tip I would add is - get conversion data into AdWords. Your goal is more sales/leads, and you want to get this by finding the ads that lead to the highest conversion rate. You might find an ad that has a low CTR but has a high conversion rate. Google will make you pay more because of the low CTR, but it could work out a lot more profitable in the long run if the commission from sales at a higher conversion rate outweighs the extra cost Google applies to your ads.

Nice rebuttals. I don't know a whole lot about the topic but it seems you've done your research. If indeed you are correct then i agree Chow should have vetted the article better prior to posting.
